Description: | This sequencer is kind of modeled on some sequencers I have come across over the years, on software and hardware synths. What makes it unique is that that you can record your step sequence using midi and the XeQuencer will start playing your sequence, in time once you reach the end of the sequence length. As you can set the number of steps, it should work with polyrhythms (and hopefully can be used in Live's Racks) and is potentially unlimited in length (I have left a length of 512 max at the minute, but his can be changed internally within max). The Device has three modes and opens in "Bypass" mode where midi data is passed through untouched. Start by setting your Seq Length (in number of steps) and your Quantisation (this sets the length and timing of the steps and sequence - which is set by Ableton's project bpm). Then, making sure your ableton track is in "Record" mode and that you have midi configured correctly, turn the "Mode" dial to "0 Record", then, while taking your time, input your sequence of notes using your midi keyboard (only monophonic-sorry). Once you have input the last note the XeQuencer should start with Live's transport and automatically move the dial to "Play" mode. You may want to set the "StepLength%" slider as the default is set to 88% (it is in percent of the length of the steps, which is set by the "Quantisation" menu). The "VelConst" slider will set all the velocity steps to a constant value (0-127) - so use with caution if you have recorded a sequence manually and want to keep it (as you record your step sequence the velocity is also recorded). You can also edit the note, velocity and step length parameters for each step of the sequence individually using the menu buttons and message boxes (theres also a randomisation button, wahey). Currently the sequence does not save correctly with the live project (WIP) but you can record the midi output into another Live track, just create another midi track and set its input to XeQuencer and make sure record is armed. It is actually quite powerful this way as it doesn't take long before you have a long list of midiclips.... I'm sure its all a bit buggy but its an experiment. Enjoy!! tris Bug Fixed- (V1.1)device was starting the transport when it shouldn't. Fixed. Also a few visual improvements. (V1.2)Implemented a work around for mapping a midi controller to the Mode dial, doesnt work great with Lives Macro-Controls as Lives control does not update properly but mapping a midi knob straight to it works quite well, just remember you will have to re-sync your knob after finishing recording a step sequence. Mileage may vary. (V.7)Been a few changes here and there, especially making all the objects unique so that we can use multiple XeQuencers in Live Racks. A better way to do the midi control parameters has also been found, bit of a hack but sure we will see..... I have also changed the name as there is plenty of "Re"s - and "Xe" is way more alien. Todo- Find a way to save the sequence with the live project --Properly--. Make the controls work properly when midi-mapped.(--Kind of done--) If you want to throw me a bone >> https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=Q4ZGE2KJTHNY4 |
