Description: | BANDCAMP FRIDAY!!! DIGITIZE is a Max for Live audio effect that emulates the ADC/DAC of early digital sampling hardware inside of Ableton. With DIGITIZE you can control the digital timbre of any sound. DIGITIZE features 12 injectable noise floors, bitcrusher envelope following, α-law companding, DC offsetting with DC blocking, DC shifting, independent bitcrusher mix control and independent downsampling mix control that follows ProTracker 2 resampling behaviour. The UI is split into 3 main views: FLOOR, CRUSH and DOWN, reflecting the signal flow from left to right. The example audio files are snippets of the different noise floors What makes DIGITIZE unique is the overall controllability of how the noise floors feed into the bit crusher. The noise floor to bit crusher signal path gives a huge amount of flexibility in terms of sound design and mix engineering. The user interface is simple and easy to understand, but also gives you advanced settings to precisely shape your sound. When you load DIGITIZE onto a new audio channel the default settings are entirely transparent. Another great feature of DIGITIZE is the dynamic bit crushing mode controlled by the built-in envelope follower. The envelope follower internally controls the bit crusher mix and pre/post bit crusher gain. In default mode, quieter sections of your audio signal will be subject to more bit crushing, creating breathing like bitcrushed textures, great on percussion! You can externally map the envelope follower to anything else inside of Ableton. You can also sidechain the input too. The noise floor recordings were captured from various analog and digital hardware like amps, EQs, compressors, tape, vinyl, VHS. Each noise floor features different types of noise, including ground hum, electrical interference, crackle, pops, tape hiss, quantization noise, and even mechanical noise. The noise floors are gated to the input signal and have an associated ADSR amp envelope. This feature allows for precise controllability over the amplitude of the noise floors. All standard Ableton ADSR envelope parameters are available, giving huge flexibility in terms of sound design! I personally like having a long release on noise floor in combination with a low bit depth. The slow decay of the noise creates a sparkling like texture that sounds great in stereo. (Listen to example X). Version 3.0 has an entirely new audio signal chain and introduces downsampling and anti-aliasing that follows PT2 (ProTracker 2) resampling behaviour, similar to PAULA. See the change log below for all details. DIGITIZE is the product of over 3 years of independent research into early digital sampling technology. LOVE AND SUPPORT ALWAYS! ;) As always, get in contact! DIGITIZE Manual: wavefrontinsurgency.com/digitize-manual [Manual is pending update (2.1 ---> 3.0)] How to update: wavefrontinsurgency.com/check-update/ Compatibility: Ableton Live 12.2 and above, Max 9 and above. Max for Live is only bundled with Live Suite—Live Standard users must either upgrade to Suite or purchase the Max for Live add-on—Live 12.1 and before requires Max 9 or newer. DIGITIZE is 100.8 mb and has a latency between 0 and 2.3 ms. DIGITIZE 3.0 Change Log: - New: Entire audio signal chain rewritten. - New: Downsampling that follows PT2 (ProTracker 2) resampling tables, independant dry/wet mix control, jitter, Eco/Hi-Q modes. Advanced page show anti-aliasing filters: Pre-filtering, post-filtering and the LED filter found on the Amiga 1200. DIGITIZE now reports latency to Ableton - between 0 and 2.3 ms. - New: Improved envelope following behaviour. Envelope follower is now internally controlling pre and post bitcrusher gain and also mix. The envelope follower is now also fully mappable to any other parameter in Live. The advance page also gives more control over the envelope following. - New: Noise floor ‘Advance control’ page featuring full Ableton ADSR amp envelope. ‘PAD’ and ‘Gate’ parameters moved to this page too. - New: On / Off A.K.A bypass switches for the noise floors and also downsampling for quick A/Bing. - New: New parameters, DC offset and DC shifting and proper DC filter blocking implemented. - Change: Updated UI. Tabbed views with advanced pages. - Change: Input / Output gain headroom increased to +12 dB. - Change: Internal patch cleaned up, future proofing. - Bug Fix: dry / wet mix control Improvements. - Removed: Builtin limiter. Be careful using low bitrates! The volume can increase quite drastically. it can be a good idea to put a limiter on the same channel at DIGITIZE just to be safe :) - Removed: Auto input gain compensation. Made redundant with envelope follower update. DIGITIZE 2.1 Change Log: - Bug fix: Aliasing was present in bitcrusher [1] unintentionally due to a bug with oversampling. DIGIZITE is now 0 ms latency and uses less cpu. DIGITIZE 2.0 Change Log: - Entirely redesigned device, emphasising original features, with many new features. - 2 bit crusher modes with envelope following and side chain input. - 12 injectable noise floors from sources such as VHS, amplifiers, EQs, compressors, tape, vinyl and computers. - Intuitive UI, compact and easy to use. - Simplified the α-Law compander to a single control only. - 30 new parameters. - Removed useless features. - Introduced proper naming of parameters and info view descriptions. - DIGITIZE now reports latency to Live 12 (1.5 ms). |
