Description: | Scaler – Tracks This week Scaler 3 has been released. There was a lot of praise on Youtube. So I bought myself a licence yesterday. I found some shortcomings for Scaler 3 and Ableton Live. The first was that my VST2 plugins are on a separate drive. The registry knows the path, but Scaler 3 can only find my VST2 plugins on ‘C:\Program Files\VstPlugins’. When I copy my plugins to that path Scaler will find them. It finds my VST3 plugins, but it seems I can’t open them inside Scaler 3. I soon found out that I don’t want to use plugins inside Scaler 3. There are no separate outputs for all tracks, there's only one combined stereo output. But the plugin can send the notes to 16 MIDI tracks. It’s a pity you have to assign these tracks each time a preset is changed. There’s no setting to let Scaler send its tracks to subsequent MIDI tracks automatically. But when you assign the midi channels manually Ableton picks up the MIDI notes but throws them all back again into channel 1. This is a first attempt to combine Scaler 3 with normal Ableton Live tracks. Please read these guidelines carefully! This is where 'Scaler 3 – Tracks' comes in. There are 2 MaxForLive amxd devices in the ZIP file: - ‘Scaler 3 – Host’ lets you load Scaler 3. Then you can assign the MIDI tracks. - ‘Scaler 3 – Track’ is a MIDI device that can be loaded on MIDI tracks. Then you can select MIDI Channel 1 – 16. It will pick up the notes from the corresponding Scaler 3 track. It should be followed by an instrument device and then perhaps audio effects. The ‘Scaler 3 – Track’ will also support the MIDI clips that are played on the Live Track. This way you can set up your tracks inside Ableton Live. Please Notice the following. There is another bug in Scaler 3. Sometimes the AMXD can’t be saved when edited in the Max editor. When Scaler 3 is loaded the Live set can be saved, but Live can’t load is again. First you must replace Scaler 3 with another VST. You can place a VST2 of your choice in the same directory where ‘Scaler 3 – Host.amxd’ is placed and rename it to ‘Dummy.dll’. Then the ‘Unload Scaler 3’ button will work. This is my first attempt to combine Scaler 3 with normal Ableton Live tracks. You need to be very carefull to use it. Perhaps I will find a better way to achieve its goal. |
