Overview

Name | Version: Retrigger MIDI Transformer 1.0
Author: ntrm
Device Type: MIDI Transformation
Description: A Transformer that repeats MIDI notes, a bit like a MIDI Beat Repeat. The velocity can be modulated over the course of the retrigger events, and the retrigger interval can also be shaped to create nonlinear retrigger rhythms like the classic “bouncing ball”.

At the top of the device, Interval sets the time interval for the note repeats. Quantize causes the repeats to conform to the MIDI clip’s active grid.

The sliders on the first tab set the number of times that notes will be repeated. To set the number of sliders equal to the number of notes in the clip, use the Link button. Otherwise the retrigger amounts will be applied to the notes in a round-robin fashion. In the example below, we start with a simple rising clip:

Next, we apply a transformation. Because there are two sliders, the first and third notes in the original clip receive the same transformation.

The Time tab works much like the Pattern tab on Phase Pattern.

Manipulating the time function allows you to repeat the notes in a nonlinear fashion. This tab also includes a Jitter control that adds randomness to the position of the repeated notes. Try combining these features with the Quantize button to generate new rhythmic patterns.

Finally, the velocity tab modulates the velocity over the course of a note’s repeats. Clicking and dragging on the function viewer allows you to change the modulation shape. You can also use the number boxes below to fine-tune the shape. The Range determines the magnitude of the velocity modulation.
