Overview

Name | Version: Raw Doom Compressor 1.0
Author: geoffreyday
Device Type: Audio Effect
Description: A single-band extreme upwards compressor based on Mick Gordon's implementation in NI Reaktor.

This design is fairly simple and provides only the core ("raw") doom compression effect, which means it can be easily added to effect chains to create multiband versions, or whatever else you can imagine. The attack and release times are hard-coded and have been tested in a number of sound design situations to achieve the desired effect.

Knobs:

"Dynamics Removed" - Turning up this knob pushes the compression slightly harder which might result in audible distortion. Sometimes this is preferred. This knob is not mappable, intentionally.

"Floor (-)" - The compressor will attempt to boost audio which is above the number listed. Range is -200dB to -30dB. However, keep in mind that when the floor is set to a high value, the audio will "cut" abruptly once the source falls below the threshold.

"Output" - Control the output volume of this device. Range is 0dB to -30dB

Additional Notes:

The link provided in the URL field is of Mick's screenshots of the internals of his doom compressor. The specifics are still vague but it is still very interesting.
UPDATE: he has since deleted the tweet, but I managed to save the screenshots in the new link.

You did it! So stoked to use this.
YES!! Time to put a flanger swarm before it and give myself tinnitus.
I just found this in my downloads again and dropped it on a drum loop. It sounds AMAZING! Thanks for making this one.
