Overview

Name | Version: Parameter Randomizer 1.0.1
Author: midrun
Device Type: Audio Effect
Description: A utility device for Ableton Live that lets you randomize and tweak parameters across multiple devices on the same track. Designed for both quick experimentation and precise control, with history, editing, and safety features built in.

Features
---------
Multi-device support
- Select any device on the track (instruments, effects, plugins). Switch between them without losing history or settings (currently only during the session).

Randomization with scope
- Turn randomization on or off per parameter, so only the parameters you choose will be affected.

Parameter edit mode
- Define Min/Max ranges for randomization.
- Set a Default value for each parameter.
- Enter a specific value directly into the table.

History per device
- Every device has its own undo/redo stack up to 100 steps. Navigate back and forth at any time. (currently not saved in Live Set - just usable during a session).

Global lock
- Lock the device to block edits and randomization. History navigation remains available while locked.

Bulk actions
- Apply Min, Max, or Default to all scoped parameters.
- Randomize all in one click.
- Toggle All On / All Off for scoping quickly.

UI designed for speed
- Compact, table-based interface with inline editing. Easy to use for fast experiments, detailed enough for fine control.

Visual feedback
- Randomized ON = green, OFF = gray
- Min/Max/Default show teal if unchanged, red if modified
- Values are in gray

Planned Features
------------------
- Restore configs on project re-opening.

How it works
--------------
1. Drop the device on a track.
2. Choose a target device from the dropdown.
3. Mark which parameters should randomize.
4. Set ranges, defaults, or direct values in the table.
5. Press Randomize → explore sounds.
6. Use Undo/Redo to step through variations, or lock the device when performing.

Requirements
--------------
- Ableton Live Suite with Max for Live (Live 12 recommended).
- Works on macOS (-> not tested on Windows).

This tool is built for producers and performers who want:
- fast ways to discover new sounds
- precise control over what gets randomized
- safe history to explore without losing ideas (during a session)
- a clean interface that works both for quick play and detailed tweaking

Wow! This is awesome
Absolutely awesome! Live definitely needed a parameter randomizer like this. This might be one of my go-to devices.
woot!
Not working. 12.2 osx
Working in my 12.2 OSX
It's not filling the list of devices even with hitting the refresh button. What do I do wrong?
Hi @jimbeam!
On Gumroad, I have a community chat and a support email address. Please send me a message on one of those channels with details about the Live version you’re using and which plugins/devices you tried to load. I already have a guess about what might be causing the Randomizer initialization issue.

I’m planning to release an improved version of the Parameter Randomizer in the coming days, but additional details from you would still be very helpful.
Hi, thanks for responding. I think I'm blind, where's the support email address? I just found the community button, ok!
This is the BEST randomizer device I have discovered yet.
You are amazing! Please have a great day!! Thank you so much for this.
Highly recommended, I midi mapped the Randomize and Back/Forth controls and it's super fast.
Hello Midrun!
I just bought this, and it's great. However, there seems to be an issue where it doesn't save on/off/range settings when I save it in a rack or by itself. Any possibility to fix this? I tried to find an official support area (as you mentioned in another comment), but no success. Cheers!
Hi HavenBreaks!

Thanks so much for your support, really glad you’re enjoying the device.
The community tab on Gumroad is a bit hidden, but you should find it in the left navigation with a section for Parameter Randomizer. On the product page where you downloaded the patch, you’ll also see my email if you’d like to reach out directly.

About the issue you mentioned: that’s on me. The Randomizer was first designed as a quick “try things out and remove it” tool, but many users (rightfully!) want to keep it in projects and restore their settings. I’m working on a solution. Saving the history is trickier than expected, but I hope to release a second version soon with proper config restore and some performance improvements.

Really happy about the great feedback and ideas from the community. it helps a lot. Thanks again for flagging this!
