Device Overview

Name/Version: MicroTonic Drumpad 1.0.1
Author: xanadu
Description: I like the MicroTonic drums from Sonic Charge a lot. You can get almost any drumsound from the same drumsynth. For each drumpad 23 parameters can do the job. It’s about 15 years old now, but I don’t think it shows it’s age.
Ableton Live is my main DAW. Ableton’s Drum Rack can be used easily from my Push 2. Through the years I’ve tried several times to integrate the MicroTonic into a Drum Rack. Finally I’m content with this approach which allows the use of standard MicroTonic presets and integrates the parameters for use from the Push2.

There are more devices for the MicroTonic here on MaxForLive.com, but I think there is room left for one more. This package comes with some usefull extra features.

Copyright
This package is freely available for download ‘as is’. Although I’ve spent a lot of time constructing this device I decided not to make it commercially available. You can use it as you like. The code is open and can be changed in the MaxForLive editor to your liking. However I ask you not to distribute your own altered versions. Instead please ask me to integrate your code into my device. That way there will only be one codebase for it. The downside of this is that I will only provide minimal technical support if you have issues using the device.

To do list
- There is an issue Ableton Live will crash when closing with active MicroTonic Drumpads. To avoid this you can delete the drum rack before closing Ableton. I will report this issue to Cycling ’74.
- The neural network is using an old version of the brain by Heather Arthur. This needs to be replaced by a recent version. However the AI is doing it’s work reasonably well.

Installation
First you need to unzip the downloaded file and find a nice place for it on your computer. Then add this to ‘Places’ in Ableton Live. You need to place your own ‘Microtonic Multi.dll’ file into the VSTi subfolder. If this doesn't work for you you can manually select your plug-in.

Operation
You can drag the Microtonic Drumrack.adg into your Ableton song. This gives you 8 identical drumpads. Each drumpad has an embedded MicroTonic VSTi inside. The first pad of these are used for making a sound. For loading presets the pads must be placed on the notes C1 to G1. You can load as many MicroTonic drumpads or other drumsounds into the drumrack as you like.

Documentation
This package comes with a user manual and a technical reference.

Looks like a super interesting/useful M4L device Xanadu. Nice one.

Re: Installation you mention "You need to place your own ?Microtonic Multi.dll? file into the VSTi subfolder."

How would you go about this setup on a Mac with no DLL fille?

Hi dystopiandisco,

Thanks for your remark. I don't have a Mac, so I can't test my devices on it.

I've added a menu with the Microtonic plugins that MaxForLive can find in the default places. There's also an option to select your plug-in manually. I hope this will work for everyone now.

Xanadu.
